One of my clients, Ann, yelled "no way" on the inside when I suggested she eat a big salad every day.
Her idea of eating a salad was smothering iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing, so she didn't have to taste the lettuce.
But she nodded, smiled, and left our meeting.
Then she went home, and after a few days of internal protest, she acquiesced.
She realized that I wouldn't have suggested this without good reason. And she trusted me because her doctor recommended we work together.
So, she decided to try the recipe again.
And then again.
And you know what?
She liked it.
And also, her body liked it.
Maybe there is something to this, she thought.
And over the next few weeks, she began to believe this more and more.
She felt more energized.
She felt less stressed.
And this may be TMI, but... she was more regular.
And she slept better too.
I told her there was a reason for this.
The combination of veggies, protein, and fat in her salad is a perfect blend of happy hormone-making deliciousness.
She became a convert.
And she no longer laughs at me - at least about eating salads.
But she laughs with me when reminiscing about her response to my suggesting that she even try to eat a big salad a day.
What affects your health affects your fertility.
What?
It's true. Your fertility is a function of your overall health.
And Ann takes these lessons to her current post-fertility treatment life.
Life with her beautiful daughter.
Life of knowing how to build her health and that of her sweet baby girl.
She uses these lessons to keep her immune system in check.
Her digestion is happily and painlessly moving.
And she is sleeping like a baby.
How about you?
Are you getting 7-9 servings a day of veggies in your meals?
Veggies have a lot of vitamins and minerals that you need - I mean really need – for fertility, pregnancy, and a healthy baby.
One way to get these necessary nutrients is be like Ann and eat a big salad a day - with several servings of veggies.
You can do this during any season.
When it’s warm, they salad are cooling.
If it's cold, I recommend rinsing the greens and veggies under warm water to cut the chill.
My favorite fertility-boosting, hormone-balancing, immune-supporting, happy-belly-making salad recipe will give you a huge dose of daily servings of veggies that are so very important to your fertility health and treatment outcomes.
And, it will help your male partner, too, since he is literally half the equation of the baby you want so much.
Can you imagine being emotionally able to handle anything that comes your way, especially during challenging fertility treatments?
Your food choices can help you be this person.
It's hard to believe, but I have seen it over and over.
I chose these ingredients because they taste GOOD and are GOOD for your fertility.
A few notes before the recipe reveal -
Choose organic lettuce to reduce pesticides and toxic body burden.
Green lettuce is rich in folate, an essential B vitamin for fertility. Most importantly, it helps prevent neural tube defects.
Wash lettuce under warm water during colder months to take the chill off it.
The beets and the lemon juice aid in liver health and detoxification, which combat the toxicants that bombard our bodies daily and clear the weeds for your garden to grow. Your liver helps you do this.
Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and support healthy blood pressure and steady nerves.
Avocados are healthy and satiating fats, and your cells (literally the near-invisible building blocks of your body and your future baby's body) need these.
Cucumbers are hydrating and alkalinizing.
Pumpkin seeds are rich in both zinc and magnesium. So many who are trying to conceive are low in these crucial minerals.
Raw honey kills viruses and is rich in amino acids, minerals, and enzymes.
Apple cider vinegar supports digestion and hydrochloric acid production in your stomach.
Add additional protein (did you know veggies contain protein?), like organic chicken or black beans, to keep you full and your blood sugar humming at an even pace.
Finally, consider doubling or tripling the ingredients. It's easier to be consistent, save time, and energy when you make once, eat twice.
